A Snowy Triplet Update

Have you enjoyed the snow? I'm glad we finally got to take the kids sledding this weekend, that's for sure!

Grammy bought Colbin this sled for Christmas a couple years ago.

We reminded Grammy that we are going to need four more sleds!

Sledding on a snowy day and baking on a snowy day seem to go hand in hand. Colbin wanted to help me bake cookies. I love baking, but I'm not big on sweets during this pregnancy. I believe it's due to me carrying two boys. :)

Now on to those triplets...

I'm now 17 weeks pregnant and feeling great!

Our appointment today took all morning. We had a very detailed sonogram that took about an hour and a half. They measured everything you could think of measuring: head, heart, brain, feet, hands, bladder- you name it. It was measured.

Baby A (the girl)~

heartbeat: 158
weight: 7 ounces
Everything on target!

Baby B (one of the boy twins):

heartbeat: 142
weight: 8 ounces

We got to see several shots of cute, tiny hands and feet.

Baby C (one of the boy twins):

heartbeat: 151
weight: 8 ounces

Everything measured perfectly, except the very last measurement of the amniotic fluid.  At our first appointment, they warned us of one of the many complications called Twin to Twin Transfusion (TTTS). We discussed this in more detail this morning because Baby B is a little short on the amniotic fluid. (I believe the doctor said the minimum should be a 2 and Baby B is at 1.8) He said we don't have TTTS yet, but we need to be monitored more just in case.

TTTS is a serious complication that occurs in about 15% of multiples pregnancies. Since they sometimes share a placenta, some twins end up having the blood of one baby mixing with the blood of the other. If the blood isn't equally shared, then one baby can get too much and the other can become underfed.

This all can sound very scary, but 50% of the time this issue corrects itself with no intervention needed. Since both of the twins' bladders look wonderful, this is a good sign that so far the boys are OK. There is a scale of severity with TTTS, measuring from 1-5. Right not I'm not even at a 1 yet, but like I said, more observation is a must so we can catch it early if it does happen.

So for now, I am not going to worry everyone with "What if's" and what we will do should the boys need help with TTTS. Levi and I will really count on our family and friends being our prayer warriors! Until next post, please keep the prayers coming. Thanks everyone!
